Reduce

The simplest way to help keep Mylar debris from entering our ocean is by REDUCING the amount of Mylar balloons and other Mylar products that you purchase. Remember, Mylar Balloons are expensive, so why not cut them out of your budget and instead use these environmentally-friendly alternatives below!

Mylar Alternatives

It’s easy and less expensive to purchase alternatives to Mylar balloons that are good for the environment and good for the ocean, but still achieve the same effect! For party decorations, events or holidays, try using:

1. Bubbles

Bubbles are fun, interactive, and can be just as mesmerizing as normal balloons! As a bonus, they are a fraction of the cost!

2. Natural Decorations

Flowers in vases and other plants can be used as decoration or gift, as can pinecones and palm fronds. Wreaths are a great alternative too, and don’t have to be used just around the holidays!

3. Paper decorations

The great thing about paper decorations is that they are recyclable and

reusable. Below are a few examples:

  • Paper streamers
  • Paper lanterns
  • Japanese paper balloons
  • Piñatas
  • Paper planes or origami animals
  • Paper Pinwheels
  • Tissue paper pompoms

4. Fabric Decorations

In some cases, fabric decorations are better than paper ones because they can be reused over and over again for years! Here are some examples:

  • Colorful flags or banners
  • Fabric garlands
  • Fabric curtains/drapes for a backdrop
